While trapped ion mobility spectrometry (TIMS) provides excellent separation capability as an ion mobility technique, one major drawback is the need for a calibration step to convert drift times into a reduced mobility value (K0). The calibration step, therefore, requires accurate reference mobilities of IMS standards. With this work, recently published by the Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, we couple our open-source PCBIMS design to the front of a TIMS to measure reference mobilities on the same instrument as the TIMS to aid in streamlining the calibration process.
